Studio Vedèt led the creative direction, book design and layout, and wrote the project texts, allowing the architecture to do what it does best: explain itself clearly, directly, and with ambition.
The editorial design for BIG Atlas is conceived as a bold framework to host 25 years of architectural production. Structured chronologically, the book is divided into five chapters corresponding to five-year periods, establishing a linear and legible narrative that traces the evolution of the studio’s work across projects that differ widely in scale and scope.
BIG’s way of turning iconic ideas into built realities, through “pragmatic utopianism”, “architectural alchemy”, “symbiotic urbanism”, and “programmatic overlaps”, emerges as a strong architectural vocabulary, reinforced by the editorial structure.
The visual system is intentionally strong and outspoken, defined by precise hierarchies and a balanced relationship between text, drawings, and imagery, which together set the pace of the publication. Plans, diagrams, and more than 600 images are organised to support a direct reading of over 50 projects, while maintaining continuity across the book as a whole. The result is a structure that operates both as a navigable atlas and as an immersive architectural journey, open to non-linear exploration.
